A “big-picture” opportunity is for Squamish to become known as a “learning community”, building on the base provided by Quest University and Capilano College Downtown expansion.

To this end, business owners are choosing Squamish specifically in relation to the following types of educational opportunities:

• Private sector colleges and training institutions, including language and other schools oriented to international students;
• Arts college like The Banff Centre;
• Satellite campuses of public colleges and universities, perhaps tied to unique features of the Squamish area (e.g. a program in wind power technology if that opportunity becomes reality);
• Student-related retail, entertainment, food and beverage, and housing, all of which should follow from growth in the student population, but can also be an important draw for students and facilities.
