As the future unfolds, Squamish will need to accommodate growth and development, while ensuring that the quality of life and its beautiful natural surroundings - the very qualities that attract people to the Sea to Sky Corridor - are preserved.

Smart Growth on the Ground is assisting the citizens of Squamish tackle this challenge. Some of the outcomes include:

• Creating compact, complete neighborhoods, including a vibrant downtown core and waterfront, while preserving environmental features and undeveloped areas on the outskirts
• Increasing opportunities for walking and cycling around Squamish, to reduce pollution and traffic congestion and to increase the health of individuals
• Using “green” standards in buildings and infrastructure, to reduce costs for energy, water and waste; reduce environmental impacts; and provide a healthier environment for those who live and work in Squamish
• Adding a range of housing choices to serve a variety of needs, such as the ability for seniors to remain in the community as they age, and to encourage young people and families to live in Squamish.
