District of Squamish to Conduct Telephone Budget Survey
Beginning Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the District of Squamish will conduct a random telephone survey of Squamish residents related to the 2009 budget.
Council directed staff to conduct the survey at the Regular Business Meeting held February 3, 2009. The survey will be based on the questions developed by Ipsos Reid during the quality of life/finance survey in 2006.
Respondents will be asked for their opinion related to the impact of escalating policing and other service costs and satisfaction with property tax levels.
“By conducting this survey before heading into the budgetary process, we’ll have a snapshot residents’ opinions and can make better decisions. We’ll know how satisfied they are with current services and what they’d like to see going forward,” said Mayor Gardner.
“There are some tough budget decisions that have to be made,” said Councillor Kirkham, Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance, “and this survey will provide an opportunity for residents to get involved in the process and voice their opinion.”
The survey will be conducted by telephone from February 10, 2009 to February 13, 2009. Information about the survey will be available on the District of Squamish website www.squamish.ca. The survey will not be online at this point.
