DOS awards MMK Consulting Inc Contract for Socio-Economic and Fiscal Impact Study on G@S
The District of Squamish has awarded MMK Consulting Inc a contract to conduct a Socio-Economic and Fiscal Impact Study regarding the Garibaldi at Squamish project. The information from this study provides the District of Squamish fundamental information to help determine the impact and implications the approval of the project will have on the District of Squamish.
“More information was needed for Council to understand how it would change and impact our community socially and financially,” said Mayor Greg Gardner. “The District took the lead to have this study commissioned and funded by the development company,” continued the Mayor.
The District of Squamish has awarded MMK Consulting Inc a contract to conduct a Socio-Economic and Fiscal Impact Study regarding the Garibaldi at Squamish project. The information from this study provides the District of Squamish fundamental information to help determine the impact and implications the approval of the project will have on the District of Squamish.

The Socio-Economic portion of the study focuses on the regional Socio-Economic Impacts. A Socio-Economic study was previously conducted, but only focused on the development site geographically and did not include the regional assessment.
The Fiscal Impact portion of the study focuses on the impact of the project to the finances of the District of Squamish and the Squamish Lillooet Regional District as corporations.
Garibaldi at Squamish is funding the total study cost of $173,575. MMK Consulting Inc has begun to work on the study with the process taking approximately six months to carry out.
Garibaldi at Squamish (GAS) – the Garibaldi Resort proposed project site is located approximately 15 km north of Squamish within the slope of Brohm Ridge. The north and east sides of the Garibaldi Resort project are bounded by Garibaldi Provincial Park while the western limit extends a short distance across Highway 99. The southern boundary of the project extends to the Cheekye River.
The Garibaldi Resort project study area contains approximately 4,901 hectares of almost entirely Crown land.
