First Green Industry Building Fair a Success
The first Squamish Green Industry Building Fair, co-hosted by the Squamish Sustainability Corporation and the District of Squamish on Saturday September 25th at the Squamish Adventure Centre was a success with a majority of participants asking for it to be an annual event.
On April 15, 2008, Minister responsible for Housing, Rich Coleman announced that new Building Code requirements to increase energy and water efficiency would come into effect on September 5, 2008. These first steps in Greening the B.C. Building Code support the province's Throne Speech commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to buildings and construction. The new requirements can be found at:

To review and introduce these new requirements to ALL Squamish residents, and showcase current businesses in the Community that can help provide services or products that align with the new BC Building code, the District of Squamish in partnership with the Squamish Sustainability Corporation hosted the first Green-Industry Building Fair.
A selection of local businesses and industry providers were on hand with interactive displays and plenty of literature to help define what services and products they offered in the way of Green-Industry building. There was also an impressive list of speakers and presentations going on in the the Theatre throughout the day. Those presentation can be found attached to this article.
Exhibitors and presenters included: Cloverdale Paint (www.cloverdalepaint.com), Echoflex (www.echoflexsolutions.com), Terasen Energy Services (www.terasenenergyservices.com), Succession Building Company (www.successionbuilding.ca), City Green (www.citygreen.ca), and University Heights (www.universityheights.ca).
Other local related companies in attendance included: Kerschbaumer Design (www.kerschbaumer.ca), Celtic Roots Masonry (www.celticrootsmasonry.com), GeoPlus Ground Source Inc. (www.geoplus.ca), and Aquaverde (www.aquaverde.ca).
General concensus from all that participated and took part is that this Fair should be repeated on an annual basis.

What they're saying...
"I have been living in Squamish for the past 14 years. We have been enjoying our life in the sea to sky corridor and so it wasn't difficult to choose to have my own business in this area. In the next few years as Squamish continues to grow, I can see my business really thriving as Real Estate becomes more and more competitive.
Everyone with the right beliefs and persistence should be able to create a successful business as the Squamish community continues to expand and become more diverse."
