CALOC

The Callaghan Valley Local Organizing Committee (CALOC) is a volunteer organization of approximately 350 people based out of Squamish that represents the entire Sea to Sky Corridor – with members representing as far south as Vancouver and as far north as Pemberton.

Mandate

CALOC's mandate is two-fold:

  1. Take advantage of economic opportunities as they present themselves through the hosting of major National and International Nordic events taking place in the Callaghan Valley Whistler Olympic Park leading up to, during, and beyond the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This hosting includes working closely with VANOC (Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee) in the early stages to gain knowledge in expertise on how to host international calibre events.
  2. Recognizing the growing popularity of nordic sports in North America and taking advantage of a world class facility, through the nurturing and fostering of various levels of professional and amateur athletes, build a legacy of nordic sport in the community and corridor that will exist well beyond the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This legacy will ‘speak’ to the communities in the Sea to Sky region through direct and indirect economic benefits as well as additional recreational activity for the local and tourist market.

CALOCThough the events are now over for the FY08 season, the work of CALOC Communication Team is far from over. Though the Communication Plans for each event have been executed, there is still the task of calculating and evaluating just how affective each Plan was in promoting the nordic events this season. Through this evaluation process, the communication team is able to tabulate the speculative ‘reach’ of the communication to the people all over BC, the country, and the world.

These numbers, which are proving to be very impressive for a volunteer organization in its first year, help in many ways in the staging of future events in the Callaghan Valley. Ways of assistance include increasing perceived value for existing a new sponsors, increasing spectators and athlete participation, and increase general awareness for Nordic sports in BC.

Below is a table outlining some of the numbers stemming from successful Communication Plans. Media Impressions includes all print and web media. There are no numbers available for broadcast reach as the calculation requires a third party supplier that was not budgeted for this year.
