Workforce

The population of Squamish at the last census in 2006 was 14,949. This is 4.9% higher than the previous census in 2001. The total workforce of 9,035 people represented just over 60% of the population. Since the census in 2006 BC Stats has estimated that the annual population growth rates for Squamish are between 3.1% and 3.6% which is almost double the Provincial rate.
Other notable Squamish workforce statistics between the 2001 and 2006 census include:

•   A youthful population with 65% below the age of 44

• Flourishing entrepreneurship with the self-employed labour force growing 12% and outpacing the Provincial growth rate by 5.2%

• A growing number of employees within the labor force that outpaced the Provincial rate of growth by 5.5%.

•    The population between the ages 25 to 64 with a high school certificate or equivalent grew by 46% and outpaced the Provincial change by 18%

• The population between the ages of 25 to 64 with a college, CEGEP or other certification or diploma grew by 37% and outpaced the Provincial change by  26%

• The population between the ages of 25-64 with a University certificate, diploma or degree grew by 57.4% and outpaced the Provincial change by 23%

• The population between the ages of 25-64 with a Bachelor's degree increased by 34.5% which outpaced the Provincial change by 11.5%

• The median family income in Squamish in 2005 was $71,459 which was 8.62% higher than the Provincial median income.
